About Me
My name is Nolan Walker. I am a PHP Programmer, WordPress Developer, and Web Project Manager. I live in Victoria B.C. Canada. I (mostly) grew up in Edmonton, but migrated to the west coast in 2007…and have never looked back!
I have a young daughter named Isabella, and a wife named Shannon. We love to camp, cycle, and generally spend time outside. We also love to travel, and make a point to do so, which can be challenging. I have recently started playing hockey again after about 15 year break, and love it!
You’ll see below that I don’t have a typical job. I have two corporate roles, neither of which are exclusive. I love what I do, and even though at times it can be a lot to balance, I love the daily variety and all of the challenges. I also love the freedom, when I can find time for it!

I started
Advantcomp in Edmonton is March 2000, while I was still in university. I had just taken a web design course as an optional part of the B.Sc. Computer Science degree program, and was amazed at how easy it was to turn HTML code made in a text editor into colours and fonts in a web browser. That was it, I just kept going from there. In the early days, spending countless hours bidding on projects on elance.com, and learning new technology as I needed to. Advantcomp changed it’s size and focus many times since 2000, and it has been an invaluable learning experience.
Today, Advantcomp is a small web consulting company, working daily for a small collection of long-term custom programming clients.
IdeaZone.ca has been serving clients since 2003, and is a leader in the Victoria B.C. community. We host and sponsor all kinds of
WordPress and Social Media events in Victoria. We are a full-service
web development and strategy company.
I am the Technical Director at IdeaZone.ca. I was previously a sub-contractor, and after working together for years we all decided that it made sense to bring me aboard as the Technical Director, and it’s been a fantastic fit.
